HN discussionHere's a fun quote: https://proofsandprompts.com/2026/09/10/open-letter-about-th... >Participation in an event so closely associated with Anthropic and OpenAI could plausibly negatively impact the future reputations of participants. Given how much power advisors etc have over students in academia, interpret it as you wish.

HN discussionThe commenters over here think that OpenAI basically ignored AGMAI: https://proofsandprompts.com/2026/10/07/on-openais-release-o... The thieves do as they please, funded by money stolen from the public via inflation and possible future bailouts.

HN discussionThe did not adjust. The say they adjusted. Now they launder money through the Simons Foundation, which shares their exact values on AI, to people who want to "understand" the proofs. This directly contradicts point #6 of the AGMAI recommendation that money must be distributed by a neutral organization: https://proofsandprompts.com/2026/10/26/disadvantages-of-des...

HN discussionWell, so Tao now invites literal industry boosters to lure mathematicians into a pro-AI stance. This is the guest poster: https://www.3blue1brown.com/talent The only concrete step any mathematician on the internet, including on the other AI concern site https://proofsandprompts.com/ , is demanding funding for an academic frontier AI. Strange that the Poincare conjecture was solved by a hermit without all this AI bul…

HN discussionThere's a long collection of comments by mathematicians at [1]. A large number of workers in the field are rather discouraged. The main quality complaint is that the proofs are ugly, long, and incomprehensible. One mathematician comments that the first proofs of new major results are often like that. Elegance comes later. The main social complaint is that the social foundations of mathematics just changed, in a big…

HN discussionYou sound reasonable and open to changing your mind. Please, please read this. https://proofsandprompts.com/2026/10/08/100-reactions-to-100... And then tell me that this has not damaged the mathematics community. I would urge you to reconsider your stance, and in particular to put deep thought into why you believe OpenAI is not going about this wrong.

HN discussionI have only twice (knowingly) refereed AI slop. I'm mostly talking about refereeing in the period 2010 - 2020. (However, looking here https://proofsandprompts.com/2026/10/08/100-reactions-to-100... it seems that many other consider many of the papers poorly written. I just wanted to give one datapoint.)

HN discussionAnd many math elites are financed by AI boosters like the Simons Foundation. That is why the online mathematicians at least leave no opportunity to boost AI. True opposition has been crushed by capital. Isolated opposition comes from professors tenured in Germany: https://proofsandprompts.com/2026/09/24/rulers-of-the-childl... Maybe more German professors could assist because they have heavy protections?

HN discussion>Every major statement I've seen come out of the math community on this matter reads as well thought-through, humble, reasoned, and deeply human.
