What Hacker News says?

  1. One thing that I would watch out for with _all_ OpenAI products is that they use Keychain's Access Control lists to encrypt data such that _you_ cannot unlock or access it. It's a change that they made to 'fix' this issue: https://pvieito.com/2024/07/chatgpt-unprotected-conversation... The net effect however is that if you use their apps, you can get data _in_, but you can only get it _out_ in ways that their apps t…

  3. Have a look at MakePass[0] - which sounds exactly like you describe. It allows you to design a pass as per spec. [0] https://pvieito.com

  5. MakePass is an app that creates independent/proper Wallet *.pkpass files. You can completely customise the pass appearance according to Apple’s specs. (Not sure whether the current licensing offerings are worth it, though. I’ve got grandfathered in from before it had AI support.) https://pvieito.com

Are we sure yet? Apple ships a read only system partition now, and requires the users to go through hoops to remove that, and they have been adding more and more of the random codesign and entitlement locking features to their b…

  9. Claude Cowork (part of the Desktop app) is claude code, running inside a VM. Helpful writeup here: https://pvieito.com/2026/01/inside-claude-cowork (I am not the author)

  11. Wallet passes allow you to define locations and timespans where the pass is "relevant". I've used the app MakePass to create a pass with my StarBucks membership code and when I'm nearing my usual shops, my phone will automatically suggest the StarBucks pass on the lock screen. Same with event tickets. I define a location and timespan and when I arrive at that location, my phone will suggest the pass automatically wi…
