Too few sampled comments (2) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

Linked for hands-on measurement projects: a webcam radiation counter tested with a smoke detector as an alpha source, and a spectral chart of clear plastic showing UV attenuation.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. You don't even need to be infected to develop the right antibodies: https://www.randombio.com/coronavirus2.html You may not have a lot of them, but you have already evolved targeted killers.

  3. This is really cool! I found a couple of projects online (e.g. http://www.randombio.com/webcam.html ) where people tested out their webcam counter by using a smoke detector as an alpha source, and had some success.

  5. Really the absorption measurement should have been taken using a broadband lamp (an old light bulb would do). Using a CFL, the signal to noise in the attenuation region is pretty poor to begin with. A lot of plastics (e.g. Polycarbonate) attenuate UV - you have to go out of your way to find windows that will pass it. For example: http://www.randombio.com/clear-lucite-spectra.png
