What Hacker News says?
I "benchmarked" the network across a few big VPS providers, they all seem to do 400Mpbs+ within the continent and 100-200Mpbs when you go across the ocean (iperf3, I assume you also meant heavy sustained traffic). It also aligns with what the creator of PHP found out: https://toys.lerdorf.com/low-cost-vps-testing . Did you find a provider where the network would allow you to go 300Mbps+ across the ocean on a cheap V…

HN discussionI'm not affiliated with them in any way, but historically, Online.net (now rebranded as "Scaleway") has always been the main competitor of OVH in France. They were known for their "Dedibox" when I was younger. OVH kinda won because their VPS pricing was always dirt-cheap compared to the cheap dedicated servers provided by Online.net/Scaleway. Since then OVH VPSes got expensive, and Scaleway started offering cheap VP…

HN discussionA lot of PHP folks nowadays try to distance themselves from the simplicity that made PHP popular. Avoid falling into AbstractInterfaceAdapterFactory trap and use it like it was conceived to be used; simple and procedural ( https://toys.lerdorf.com/archives/38-The-no-framework-PHP-MV... ). Otherwise, just use Java.

HN discussionI just built one recently. Motherboard-wise you should get one that supports ECC ram. Other than that it doesn't matter that much. You typically don't use the onboard SATA ports either, so the motherboard specs aren't very important. I built one recently. A bit of CPU overkill, but otherwise a pretty standard build. You can see the hardware list here: http://toys.lerdorf.com/archives/58-Building-a-NAS.html
