Why HN links it
HN readers recommend Reviewable as a code review layer on GitHub pull requests, valued for stacked changes, rebase handling and batched comments. Several call it a favourite or a good upgrade over GitHub's own reviews.

What Hacker News says?
I got frustrated waiting for improved PR code review, so I built https://reviewable.io . It's best suited for private repos (since there's a learning curve that make throw off potential open source contributors) but it addresses a lot of the issues with PRs. Take a look!

HN discussionIn case you do want to try out another one at some point, I built https://reviewable.io to take some of my favorite features from Google's internal tool but integrate seamlessly with GitHub.

HN discussion- GitHub doesn't show you what changed in a PR from the last time you looked at it. You can look through the individual commits, but this can be painful if there's a lot of them, and can easily become impossible if the code was merged, rebased, or squashed. - GitHub sends each comment individually, encouraging "shotgun commenting" instead of a coherent set on the sender side, and leaving the receiver to deal with do…

HN discussionReviewable ( https://reviewable.io ) has strong support for a rebase-centric workflow while still integrating pretty well with GitHub. Once somebody has reviewed a commit it never disappears, even if you rebase and force push (special refs keep them pinned in the repo). You can easily get incremental diffs between the old and rebased branch or individual commits. I'll shortly be deploying a new feature where Reviewa…

HN discussionFolks who have this problem might want to check out Reviewable ( https://reviewable.io ): 1. Discussions are automatically treated as "issues" that need to be resolved before the review is complete. Resolving can be as simple as clicking "acknowledge" without following up, but there's also a rich system of "dispositions" that lets you block a discussion, resolve it unconditionally, etc. 2. You can set multiple assig…

HN discussionHonestly what i want is for github to purchase https://reviewable.io/ and make it native. Maybe gate sone of the more advanced features behind an opt-in so beginners are not too overwhelmed (and because you probably don’t need them on smaller projects), but the current state of things is just appalling, and more importantly has not at all kept up with workflows on large projects or long / complicated PRs. The comple…

on “Stacked changes: how FB and Google engineers stay unblocked and ship faster”I'm surprised Reviewable[0] hasn't come up in this discussion. It does a great job of allowing stacked code reviews and even handles rebases nicely; the reviewer sees the diff between commit #1 and commit #1' (prime = after rebase). CockroachDB[1] has been using it since very early in the project. [0] https://reviewable.io/ [1] https://github.com/cockroachdb/cockroach

on “Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2020)”Thanks! GitHub actually does some of these things already. Do these solutions help/suffice? - Batching all comments in a single send: This is a core GitHub code review feature. You can send immediately by pressing the "Add single comment" button, but if you "Start a review", your comments are batched. - Built-in fixes and lints on the PR "Files changed" tab: GitHub Checks offer this, although not many teams have ado…

on “Xg2xg: Lookup table of similar tech and services for ex-Googlers”Starting in 2014 I built Reviewable ( https://reviewable.io ) because after getting used to Critique at Google I couldn't stand the workflow of GitHub's PR code reviews. Reviewable gives you interdiffs (even when rebasing), tracks what you've already reviewed, has a rich comment resolution system for multi-party reviews, and lets you know when the ball is in your court. It has also grown more customizable over the y…
