HN discussionI have to agree with you. Maybe especially as someone coming from using flutter exclusively for app development. Someone joked about this at work "wait, so flutter 1 did not enable developers to create beautiful, fast and portable apps for any platform?" I had a vague idea that flutter 1 had a desktop/server like backing so that it could be used to develop desktop apps. Maybe this was incorrect, and only possible no…

HN discussionhttps://rive.app/ is built with Flutter. I use it a lot works very well for me. It's a good example imo of the kind of website that Flutter is a good fit for.

HN discussionI think this might be right up your alley, along with some of the children comments: https://rive.app It’s pretty much modern Macromedia Flash. Except a JS runtime, rather than plugin.

HN discussion> I understand why Apple killed Flash, but what we got in its place is not better. WebAssembly is better compilation target and runtime than Flash ever was. Many languages can compile to WebAssembly. I think what you want is an authoring tool like Flash. Why not make that tool? Or if you don't want to make it, Rive's a pretty good animation engine. You can make games with it: https://rive.app/ https://rive.app/docs/…

HN discussionI've used Rive in a small personal project before and I really can't imagine creating or editing web animations in any other way. Apparently they also made their own vector-based feathering technique, which is also amazing: https://rive.app/blog/introducing-vector-feathering I do understand the appeal for an open format though. Rive seems to have their own proprietary (documented) binary format: https://rive.app/doc…

HN discussionCouple things I've seen in this space looking around the past couple weeks... Flutter made a different engine called Impeller[0] which is replacing Skia. Which is a bit surprising as an ignorant outsider. I hope that works out. Rive ( https://rive.app ), is a new animation tool that targets multiple platforms including web and their CEO Guido Rosso gave a great interview on School of Motion[1] about how they are bui…
