I'm going to add another vote for Celiac/Gluten sensitivity. Useful people are Loren Cordain[1] and Robb Wolf[2]. [1] http://www.thepaleodiet.com/ [2] http://www.robbwolf.com/

HN discussionhealthy good DOES taste better. you've just been raised on rubbish so therefor you think that is how all food should taste. I was the same. I hated peas, carrots, sweet potato, that sort of thing. A few years ago I was at a friends place and she grew all her own produce. It was the first time I had ever tasted fresh vegetables. Oh wow. If (in Australia) the major super markets that advertise "We're the fresh food pe…

on ““Paleofantasy”: Stone Age delusions”I don't see the diet as being universally applicable but the theory behind the diet is compelling. There's an overlap in risk factors for diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. There's also an overlap in medications(e.g statins/aspirin lowering cancer risk. metformin lowering cancer risk). It's possible that all these diseases share biomolecular cascades. http://robbwolf.com/2012/03/09/paleo-diet-inflammation-metfo...

on ““Paleofantasy”: Stone Age delusions”Latest in Paleo is a great resource to keep up with health news, and Anthony Coppola is a very inspiring guy. I really like Robb Wolf's podcast as well as it occasionally has some science (scary!) for us who like to geek out on this stuff: http://robbwolf.com/podcast/ . I lost 45 lbs within the first three months. There's no way I'd eat any differently anymore.

on “The Benefits of Exercising Before Breakfast”Regarding the paleo science, or lack thereof, I enjoyed this talk from Robb Wolf: http://robbwolf.com/2012/03/07/darwinian-medicine-talk-suny-... I'm sure some see 'paleo' as pseudoscience, but there are definitely people in the community trying to pin down the science.

on “How I lost 10% body fat, while launching a startup (and raising kids)”The paleo movement has long since moved away from "eat what paleoliths ate" to focus on "nothing in biology makes sense except in light of evolution".[1] Multiple thought leaders (e.g. Chriss Kresser[2] and Robb Wolf) have acknowledged genetic changes such as lactase persistence and changes in iron metabolism that have arisen in the last 10,000 years. Succesful inclusion of dietary grains however, requires fundament…

on “It’s a part of my paleo fantasy, it’s a part of my paleo dream”Early childhood diet has a huge impact on the development of the jaw. An underdeveloped jaw is what leads to crooked teeth. One substantial evidence of this are the studies conduced by Dr. Weston Price. For over ten years, he traveled to isolated parts of the globe to study the health of populations untouched by western civilization. His goal was to discover the factors responsible for good dental health. His studie…

on “Ask HN: My 19 year old friend has cancer. How can I help him? ”Robb Wolf is a prominent voice in the paleo diet movement.
