HN discussion"We" referred to US healthcare spending [1], and the party with the right incentive for this problem is the payers: Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance like Aetna, Blue Shield, United Healthcare, etc. While the payers have the incentive to reduce readmissions (saves them money, leading to lower insurance premiums for you), they don't usually have the access to do so -- they're not the one seeing the patient or…

HN discussionWe're a full-service seed fund. Our roots were as an accelerator, but over time, we have realized that we continue to support our portfolio companies long after they "finish" at Rock Health. Our equity investment model is very similar to the YC/Start Fund relationship. KPCB, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Mayo Clinic fund the companies we select with a $100,000 convertible note, at the same terms of an existing/pending…

HN discussion> the sad truth is that medical industry doesn't welcome software disruptions This is a message that really needs to stop being regurgitated around the technology start-up space. The medical industry DOES welcome software disruptions. The past two years have been the two biggest years in healthcare software disruption, in terms of VC dollars invested in that sector[0], the number of accelerators that have accepted h…

HN discussionI would generally recommend against getting a legal cofounder, even in the medical world. They're not contributing nearly as much as the other cofounders in the beginning, especially when you're building a tech-focused startup. Make friends with a lawyer. Read up on everything legal you can. Pay your lawyer friend when you need lawyer advice and lawyer action. But don't give them not only full-time, but founder , le…

HN discussionI've known a few people go through this. One product was something that detected when someone hasn't moved in bed for a period of time. This can be used to prevent bedsores. They found the regulatory environment absolutely crippling. After banging their head against the wall too long, they eventually gave up. I'd say going with an experienced incubator/mentor/etc in this space would be a great idea. https://rockheal…
