Mmmm this works fine in MacOS (I did it years ago with the MS Paint binary). Screenshot: https://rymc.io/mspaintosx.png

HN discussionI do similar - the banner image is pretty much the only exception: https://rymc.io/ (I really need to kill the light mode variant, since I despise it - it's much better in dark mode)

HN discussionDid this about six months ago over at my site. Was annoying to get it right but glad I did. Some people find these kinds of sites pointless these days, but I enjoy keeping one even if I rarely update it anymore. Spirit of the web and all that. https://rymc.io/

HN discussionAnother option is that you keep 90% of your text in the default font (e.g, -apple-system or the equivalent stack elsewhere), and then load only the specific weights for whatever title(s) or so on you need. Hell, I've outright just crammed a few characters into a base64 encoded font in inline CSS, which - while I'm sure makes many here grimace - loads faster than anything else I've tested. (I'm a big fan of just ship…

HN discussionI have a slightly unrelated question about Life360. When Life360 sold Couple in 2016, did it sell all the data that users had stored up to that point as well? As best I can tell it was announced via tweet and sold to what looked like a 1-person dev shop. Myself and a number of others who used to use the app have often wondered this[1]. If I’m incorrect on anything in this article I would be happy to edit it, but I’d…

HN discussionEh, re: macOS, I have an effort to make it possible without basically using the foundation crates: https://rymc.io/blog/2021/cacao-rs-macos-ios-rust/ There’s other projects that wrap the varying frameworks so I don’t think macOS is as bad as it used to be, but I foresee it still being confusing due to missing docs on Apples side…

HN discussionI actually have a PR open to add this to the site, but I have no clue who maintains the effort. :( Recently pushed out a 0.2.1, and did a mini write up here for anyone interested: https://rymc.io/blog/2021/cacao-rs-macos-ios-rust/

on “A list of recent hostile moves by Google's Chrome team”Huh, I like your design - it feels like something that's simultaneously a throwback to the mid-2000s while also feeling modern. Hard to explain but fun when I load it. My site ( https://rymc.io/ ) is my take on the same concept. It's HTML-purist, but not in the sense you see elsewhere.
