Why HN links it
HN commenters link this site for its Hacker News AI-text detector, which posts per-story AI-likelihood reports using Pangram scores. The linked pages are these detection reports, not essays.

HN discussionthere's a say-do gap in play - similar to makeup/no-makeup studies: people claim to prefer natural/no-makeup while behavioral research reveals a preference for subtle/light/professionally-applied makeup when it comes to ai people love to claim to hate it outright - this thread is full of descriptions of ai writing being impossible to read, totally incoherent, and superlatively bad/worse than average human writing. m…

on “I don't want to read what you didn't write”I am skeptical that a transition from X to Wayland is actually merited. As for the post / the repo itself, this analysis: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector/50103338 suggests it is LLM-generated. Not sure what to make of it.

on “Wayland desktop for Linux with skeuomorphic design”There's a website that does this: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector Unfortunately, it's not a browser extension and doesn't seem to have an API. I'd make a browser extension for this myself if it didn't involve paying for expensive Pangram usage.

on “The revolt of the reader”> I may be very much in the minority here you are not the minority, yours is the prevailing attitude on HN (and also the policy - AI-assisted writing is not welcome here) calling out AI isms and smells while ignoring the substance has become sport and an ugly look (IMO) especially with Pangram and sites like ( https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector ) automatically scanning everything that hits the frontp…

on “I'm the mom in that viral Giants clip. Let me tell you about my husband”hnslop (using salahadawi, using Pangram) puts this at 100% AI written, so that's probably why. Report: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector/50314699 hnslop: https://hnslop.nilsherzig.com/

on “Do the math: How we took over ChatGPT accounts”So, another anecdotal website extolling LLMs, written - so it seems [1] by an LLM. Typical far for HN these days I suppose. [1] : https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector/49946567

on “Surely you have ultra-wideband radios on your bins too?”yep, there's a massive say-do gap in play - very similar to the way people say they prefer no makeup but behavioral studies reveal a preference for light/tastefully-applied makeup people love to openly hate on ai/assisted writing meanwhile https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector reveals a lot of it is being voted up to the frontpage

on “Has AI tells”> that this blog was so clearly written by LLM's is offputting for some reason It doesn't read at all AI-generated to me. What section do you think is? (Pangram is very good at distinguishing between AI-generated and human text, and assigns a very low score to the article: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector/rewriting... ) > Contrary to the amount of times "But honestly" or "genuinely" is mentioned, n…

on “Rewriting Bun in Rust”Hey, just FYI to everyone: Even though this article is conveying good (and useful) information, it seems to be completely AI-generated. Pangram clocks it as 100% AI: https://www.pangram.com/history/c410d4b4-abfd-4ca0-b52d-db0d... Someone else in the thread lists it as 99%: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector Also, it sort of jumps out at you if you're used to reading AI writing. Claude loves to start…

on “The bottleneck might be the air in the room”I've actually been tracking the front page of HN for AI posts for a while now: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector This post evaluates to 99% AI generated.

on “The bottleneck might be the air in the room”You should add hnslop to your browser. Adds the percent AI of a link before you open it. For example this one says 100% AI: https://www.salahadawi.com/hacker-news-ai-detector/49993820 https://hnslop.nilsherzig.com/
