  3. > but switching a Python http service for analytics ingest that was purely CPU bound to rust resulted in a 90% reduction in compute required to power it. However, that's not too interesting because it's known that Python is slow Kinda like this: https://blog.sentry.io/2016/10/19/fixing-python-performance-... ?

  5. I think this is the problem for open source software. It's not a one size fit all. We all do complex software and you all know its complexity. Sharding, failover, retry, back off, schema etc...everything in a high scale systems. The problem is user who used it but doesn't need other features feels frustrated. At the same time, user who used it at scale need feature others don't like? What can we do? I don't know. A…

PostgreSQL is one of the most powerful and reliable pieces of software I've seen run at large scale, major kudos to all the maintainers for the improvements that keep being added. > PostgreSQL 14 extends its performance gains to the vacuuming system, including optimizations for reducing overhead from B-Trees. This release also adds a vacuum "emergency mode" that is designed to prevent transaction ID wraparound Deali…

  15. Sounds like http://lucumr.pocoo.org/2015/5/27/rust-for-pythonistas/ is a thing you'll want to read. It's from right when 1.0 was released, so some things may have improved in the meantime, but given our backwards compatibility guarantees, nothing should be flat-out wrong. 19. Good question, that was an option. The main motivating factor here was that vacuums were beginning to take dangerously long. O(weeks) to complete, independent of the load on the database. While migrating spaces in segments would have reduced the number of records future vacuums need to scan, we were already running against the clock to complete one vacuum prior to TXID wraparound[0]. To kick off replication for spec…
