HN discussionFor project versioning I've had a good experience with Splice [0]. It has also got some features for project collaboration which are nice, as well as a marketplace for samples and synths. I believe it also supports most of the big name DAWs, although I've only ever used it with Ableton. [0] https://splice.com/

HN discussionWhat a great video, so much passion going into building the software to help musicians reach their potential. We have the same goal at Splice, but we're focused on connecting the music creation process. Our core offering is a version control system for Ableton (Logic, Garageband & FL Studio also supported). You can also publicly share your sessions with our community. Here is what a public release looks like: https:…

HN discussionWe've been slowly migrating https://splice.com from Angular 1 to Angular 2, so far it's been great. We switched to TypeScript, we cleaned up our code organization. We are writing new components in ng2 and migrating old code we we go. The betas have been somewhat painful with bugs and breaking changes, but that's the price to pay. When it comes to performance and consistency, ng2 is a big winner. Why not React you mi…

HN discussion>I continue to believe that music as a social activity is critical to almost all good-to-great music, and that contemporary technology frequently undermines that. Agreed on it being a social activity, but disagreed on contemporary approaches undermining the social aspect of it. Sure, it gives you an option to be more asocial when it comes to making music, but it also gives you ability to be more social than ever bef…

on “Git for Music – Using Version Control for Music Production (2023)”Splice[1] Studio[2] used to be version control for music software (from about 2013-2021). You could browse Ableton Live (and a few other DAWs) projects and see the tracks and rendered versions each time you saved, add metadata etc. They pivoted into the more profitable sample discovery and sales business later and dropped the less profitable studio product. I expect over the next few years that the DAWProject[3] ope…

on “Git for Music – Using Version Control for Music Production (2023)”Another opinion popular with no one: AI will have on artists the same impact that Spotify had on the music industry that is, it will kill any revenue flow for anyone outside of the publishers and big artists/players. Spotify basically killed any money coming from the physical distribution - Worse than piracy, which was inevitable too at the time, but at least you didn't have to pay your lawyers to renegotiate with y…

on “Don't Fire Your Illustrator”Just yesterday I was investigating music/production startups, and one of the few ideas I came across that seemed halfway-interesting was Splice[0]. On the producer side they have plugins for a few DAWs that enable easier collaboration and version tracking and so forth. But what comes of that (and why it's relevant to your comment) is a Soundcloud-ish embeddable web player that breaks out all the tracks/stems into a…
