HN discussionI think "computery" music (synthesized on the user's device from individual notes) reached its peak with tracker/keygen music: https://www.stef.be/bassoontracker/ That was maybe the last moment before video games switched to recorded music, and chiptunes became a nostalgia genre.

Damn - this player is awesome; I was never someone who could make tracker music, but I loved to listen to it back in the day on my Amigas (both of which I still own). Getting new MODs from Fred Fish and other ways was always a treat. Ah...and Octamed...this has brought a touch…

on “I built a pixel art editor after playing Octopath Traveler II”I haven't seen it mentioned here, but Bassoon Tracker is a web-based tracker that can play most old MOD, XM, etc files: https://www.stef.be/bassoontracker/ There's a few demo-mods along the left side, several mod archives listed in the File menu, and you can load your own as well. That and I figured out you can actually use it to compose your own tracks if you like, just like the old days!
