HN discussionDepending on how much you access per month, Storj DCS[0] and Wasabi[1] can also be interesting choices. - Storj has the lowest cost per TB, but charges for egress - Wasabi doesn't charge for egress, but has a fair use policy where if you egress more than you store they can kick you off their platform[2] - Wasabi is also a better fit only if you plan to keep your files around for 90+ days (they have a minimum object…

HN discussionStorj has spent the last year rebuilding the entire network after hiring JT Olio (Director of Engineering) Ben Golub (Interim CEO, previously CEO of Docker). The V3 Network is leaps and bounds more performant and economical than the V2 Network. It is compatible with the S3 bucket-object store and is an easy shift for applications already using S3 as an object store layer. You can speed test it vs S3 using the ./cmd/…

HN discussionFilecoin doesn't have any smart contracts as far as I'm aware, so it's limited to use as a decentralized storage network. I believe it would be possible to build something very similar to Filecoin on the Ethereum platform. Storj ( https://storj.io/ ) may be trying to do that.

HN discussionIt seems that at least on Sia's plans, you can maximally host 20TB for 80$/month, not even a tenth of a monthly common crawl. Of course Sia's Skynet are package deals right now and I guess they're currently bootstrapping the network with users. Filecoin has no operational storage yet. Storj quotes 10$/Terabyte/month [1] so that will come out expensive. 1. https://www.storj.io/blog/2019/11/announcing-pioneer-2-and-t.…

HN discussionYou could try out one of these new storage cryptocurrencies: https://www.storj.io http://sia.tech/ https://filecoin.io/ https://maidsafe.net/ I haven't used them myself so I can't vouch for the UX or quality, but they should be able to offer pretty low prices.

HN discussionI've been thinking that a p2p backup solution (encrypted storage, storage cryptocurrency, occasional random requests to make sure they're still around) would work. I guess these guys: https://storj.io/ . $15/TB of storage, $50/TB of bandwidth. and competitors: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13723722

HN discussionHow much storj you wanna bet that Gordon Hall guy is the only person in the world who understands the entirety of Storj? Scary. What relation does he have with the project? He's not even listed on the team: https://storj.io/team.html There was a $30MM ICO which ended May 25th. The price of ETH was $177 at the time. Not bad! Dropbox’ first seed round was only $15,000. HN discussionStorage, [yes]( https://storj.io/ ). Computation ... sure if you don't mind the server viewing the contents of your computation and can verify the results. Sadly, fully homomorphic systems incur waaaay too much overhead so you are constrained in what you can do (i.e. specialized DBs, zkSNARKs, etc). Then, of course, there is the problem of network latency and bandwidth costs vs just keeping it all on one datacenter.
