What Hacker News says?

  1. Although safe, according to current search, there's no benefits from supplementing 10,000 UI daily (2,000-5,000 being recommended dose) — http://examine.com/supplements/Vitamin+D/ This doesn't prove that 10,000 is unnecessary, but there's no proof that it's necessary either :) (or is there?) On the other hand, just recently a Polish study showed 6,000 IU improving rowers metabolism and performance — http://suppversi…

Even though the debate about the amount of nutrition in organic/non-organic is unsettled, I think it’s still worth buying organic to reduce pesticide exposure. Here is a good article summarizing studies on soaking fruits and veggies (both organic and conventional) in baking soda to strip away pesticides. Here’s a key quote from the article: “Even with bicarbonate, buying organic may still be worth it! One thing this…

I still believe it’s worth buying organic, here is a good article summarizing studies on using baking soda to remove pesticides from fruits and vegetables, and a key quote from the article: “Even with bicarbonate, buying organic may still be worth it! One thing this article should not be abused is as evidence in an argument against buying organic. Yes, you can reduce the pesticide load on the peel of your favorite p…

  7. Organic (natural) pesticides tend to be safer. Unfortunately, USDA has been doing a terrible job with their USDA Organic certification. It is firstly very expensive. Secondly, it is no guarantee that glyphosate is not present. This could be due to fraud or negligence. Third, it is subject to lobbying to legalize nasty synthetic pesticides as being Organic. The USDA needs to step up and do its job. Meanwhile, I never…

  8. Especially in a shared environment where people may be waiting, excessive rest periods are inconsiderate. However, there is certainly some merit to longer rest periods between sets being beneficial. https://suppversity.blogspot.com/2016/05/not-resting-long-en...

There’s a bunch of articles on this site digging into the chemistry of cooking with EVOO. I haven’t dug into the references but it looks like a thorough look at exactly what heating various oils does to the chemistry of fatty acids. https://suppversity.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-quest-for-optim...

  10. Further links on that antioxidants inhibit exercise adaptation: https://suppversity.blogspot.com/2013/10/antioxidant-supplem... https://suppversity.blogspot.com/2014/03/anti-oxidants-resis... TLDR: Take your antioxidants outside of your workout and recovery window. The bodies response to working out is based on the challenge/damage and antioxidants reduce that.
