Why HN links it
HN readers link this blog's posts on indie web app experiments: a failed $50/month app, a doubled software price, and freelancing on vWorker. Commenters cite them as evidence in pricing and design discussions.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 5 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?
As I suggest in the comments: http://tbbuck.com/building-a-50-dollar-a-month-web-app/#comm... ------ Try presenting your users with a paid and viral choice. First oauth them with the promise of the service you are offering. Then present them with the value proposition: "You are about to save X minutes by automatically deleting Y DM's". HN discussionI'm still trying to make a go of it on vworker, but have no ratings. However, this guy seems to be successful with it: http://tbbuck.com/winning-your-first-freelance-job-on-vworke...

HN discussionDon't try and compete on price. Agreed, it's a game that you're not going to win. I found that even if a client said "No way, that's my limit," they'd often come back a day later asking me to work for the original amount of money I'd quoted. I recently blogged about how I got started freelancing here: http://tbbuck.com/winning-your-first-freelance-job-on-vworke...

HN discussionPossibly referring to http://tbbuck.com/building-a-web-application-that-makes-500-... Prices went from $9.99/month to $19.99/year to $19.99/ month The take home quote What difference did increasing the price 12-fold make? Colour me shocked, surprised and, frankly, happy: it made *zero* difference!

HN discussionI started on RentACoder[1], earned little money for 2 weeks, and then saw the work pile in after clients discovered that I was competent. It worked for me, no reason if you're talented (and reply to emails within a reasonable amount of time ;)) that you can't do the same :) [1] I documented my experience here: http://tbbuck.com/winning-your-first-freelance-job-on-vworke...

HN discussionGive or take, about 59.2% more trust making me about 27% more likely to buy from a site designed to a level 3 standard over a level 1 standard. Seriously though, response to design is like response to advertising - subconscious and subtle, something that the user may not understand themselves. http://tbbuck.com/building-a-web-application-that-makes-500-... was an interesting find, showing a conversion rate jump for…
