What Hacker News says?
I couldn't agree more. It pisses me off when people say "I don't have the time." What they really mean, is that they don't want to make it a priority. People need to consider their time like an investment, and maybe they'll consider watching TV can be a waste of time. I wrote about this [ http://techneur.com/post/535211849/dont-have-the-time ]

HN discussionI've done it. I consistently make over $2.5k a month selling iPhone apps. At my peak I made a little under $5k. It kinda sucks at times as it's not just one app. To be honest, most people would consider them shovelware, but if you actually download them you'll see that they provide value. You can read my story here: http://techneur.com I should mention though, it didn't happen overnight and it took about five months…

HN discussionThis is so true. We're going through this same problem right now [ http://techneur.com for the interested]. We get unmotivated and get confused thinking that we are following the wrong path. When what we need to do is to just follow our small goal, which is to bootstrap. This is far harder than I ever imagined, and this is my third time around! First two were failures.

HN discussionI'm still wondering if this idea is good: http://techneur.com/post/635311152/announcing-mindspread Call it 'Pay-It-Forward for Books' It's essentially a webapp where you give someone a book with the promise that when they are done reading it, they will then give it someone else, and so on and so forth. You could then visualize your 'impact' upon the world by seeing how many books you've spread and where they've gone…

HN discussionUmmm, I'm not sure I agree with you financial definition of success. But, after all... it is your definition. I meet the criteria. I don't consider my business financially successful, yet. Although we make on average $2k a month and have made as much as $4k a month. Our blog is http://techneur.com

HN discussionI completely agree... I would also add that it allows you to get feedback on your ideas. I wrote about this a couple months ago: http://techneur.com/post/524363996/the-best-exercise-any-ent... I truly believe it's the best thing for a business that every entrepreneur should do.

HN discussionI wrote a whole response to this. http://techneur.com/post/703440900/beware-anecdotes In short: 1) A month isn't long enough. 2) Why did he scrap his code after 12 days? Why did he build UML diagrams? Sounds like a bit of over-engineering to me. He should have focused on the MVP. 3) He thought all he could do was code, and then he would be successful. 4) He didn't reach out to potential customers. People need to rea…

on “The Myth of the Single-Person Startup”The best single comment I've read about luck was written right here on HN. I've detailed it here: http://techneur.com/post/1321568428/luck-ii In summary, I made a comment about Zuckerberg and the value of Facebook. Someone responded that he was lucky. To which someone else responded with this: (Can't find original HN comment) "This attitude bugs me a lot. There is probably a path for every single person in this coun…

on “How to write good startup advice articles”I want to build a website that can help you visualize your impact upon the world. It can be summed up by calling it Pay-It-Forward for books. It's called MindSpread. In essence you buy a book and give it to someone else on the promise that they will give it another person and so-forth. Each person can input the email address of the person they gave it to. A Google map would track the book, thus allowing the person t…

on “ Pay it forward: how to get a free ticket for Business of Software 2010 ”I wrote about this. I think that building a business on these app stores is a losing proposition.
