As far as I know, the Microsoft Store has a similar-sounding check for "unsupported" APIs. I don't know the details though. [1] https://tedwvc.wordpress.com/2013/07/19/finding-the-kernel32... [2] https://github.com/golang/go/issues/21805

HN discussionThis OP is referring to this issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/... The C++ Runtime Library doesn't support XP, so C++ programs compiled with Visual Studio 2012 can't run on Windows XP. (It is possible to work around this by statically linking and overriding some CRT functions, as detailed here: http://tedwvc.wordpress.com/ ) You can keep using the Visual Studio 2010 C++ compiler (and…

HN discussionNo, executables made with Visual Studio 2010 run on Windows XP SP3. They don't run on Windows 2000. See: http://tedwvc.wordpress.com/2010/11/07/how-to-get-visual-c-2... There is an in-depth overview of all the things MSFT have removed to prevent the compiled executables from running on Windows 2000. These things still existed in VS 2008, it's not that they had to develop them.
