Why HN links it
HN readers link Terry Chay's blog for a joke post about Ted Dziuba and for quantitative analysis of PHP usage and CPU cost at Facebook, which one commenter found more interesting than the linked post.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

HN discussionYup, I tend to agree. Via that post I ended up on a post by Terry Chay with some much more interesting quantitive analysis of PHP usage at Facebook: http://terrychay.com/article/hiphop-for-faster-php.shtml/4 One of the things that really surprised me was the observation that PHP has a much higher CPU utilization for comparable operations than other higher level languages.
