What Hacker News says?
I had the opposite happen. I had been building servers for my (largely Django-based) projects using long txt files from old digital ocean tutorials I had customized.[1] I fought docker and all of that but had some time last year between gigs and spent a few weeks examining the state of things and experimenting. The most influential of works were recent guides by Michael Herman. [2] In the process I learned to set up…

HN discussionI really wish you'd focus time and energy on documentation and examples for the current products. I wrote this blog post after a very frustrating experience with Stripe Connect: https://testdriven.io/blog/setting-up-stripe-connect-with-dj...

HN discussionYep. You should also be hosting and deploying from wheels[0], even for stuff you create internally. If you're doing it right, you'll end up hosting your own internal PyPi server[1], which, luckily, isn't hard[2]. We did this at one of my previous companies, and, of all the things that ever went wrong with our deploy processes, our internal PyPi server was literally never the culprit. --- [0]: https://pythonwheels.co…

HN discussionBig fan of this library. I think Celery is overkill for most projects. RQ is nice for the majority projects and it can scale right along with your project. Quick tutorial of Flask + RQ: https://testdriven.io/blog/asynchronous-tasks-with-flask-and...

HN discussionHave you looked into e2e tests? They verify that the system works as expected - so they should catch those areas that you are not testing for in your unit and integrations tests. HN discussionI use GitHub actions to automate test / build / deploy of django / Postgres / nginx docker orchestrations. I prefer digital ocean for VPS and have found you can get pretty far on the smaller droplets. I’ll typically have two environments, one getting auto deploys from anything on a feature branch, and production which gets deployed when there are changes to main. For my setup, I initially learned using blog entries…
