Why HN links it

HN readers link Textualize for its Python TUI frameworks (Textual and Rich), its app gallery and its company pages. Commenters mostly point to the gallery and homepage rather than discussing the writing.

What Hacker News says?

  1. We have a gallery of apps in https://www.textualize.io/textual/gallery I'm surprised how much has been done with it. The version in master has been stuck in limbo while we've been working on the CSS branch.

This excellent article references Textualize, which - as I have just found from their website - has a really great approach to job interviews: https://www.textualize.io/jobs [I have no ties to this company and have never applied there.]

  7. We simply have a different perspective on this. You see a TUI and have experience in the "Bronze Age" of the Internet in which browsers were not so stable across platforms/etc. and think that this more or less just doesn't work. I suspect peoples' experiences using it for a while now won't sway you; you are more than welcome to assume everything works only on one computer and is reliably broken elsewhere. I don't ca…

  11. Small list of projects using rich/textual: https://www.textualize.io/textual/gallery > we are building technology that lets Textual apps run in a web browser (no code changes required) Excited to see how that turns out.

  12. Cheers. The boxes use this technique, which I think I may have invented, because I've never see it used elsewhere. https://www.willmcgugan.com/blog/tech/post/ceo-just-wants-to... For smooth scrolling, see the first item in this post: https://www.textualize.io/blog/posts/7-things-about-terminal... I'm also fascinated that you can discover new things from a protocol, decades old.

  15. This is why Textualize[1] concerns me. I've tried a few of the applications using their framework, and they have noticable keypress latency . I didn't think it was possible to make a bloated TUI, but they have somehow succeeded. This might just be a Python thing because of the GIL, because VisiData[2] has the same problem. It's physically jarring to use VisiData because it's such a cool idea, but takes 500ms to regi…

  19. I have been looking at Python GUI libraries/frameworks/services over the past > 1 year. I'll cut straight to the chase with my recommendations for what they are worth. - NiceGUI https://nicegui.io/#features - my favorite of the bunch, essentially wraps Quasar Vue components with accessible python. Tons of features including SPA, FastAPI under the hood, TailwindCSS. Have used it on a few projects and started contribu…
