What Hacker News says?
That’s not a competitor. Here is a review: https://thatgeoguy.ca/blog/2020/12/06/Librem-5-Evergreen-vs-... TLDR: If you want to join a community of people who are interested in working on a competitor, buy one of these, or a pinephone. I strongly encourage people to buy these and contribute, but don’t expect them to work as a daily driver.

HN discussionThis actually inspired me to set up my daily / monthly backups, which I had not done since upgrading to Devuan almost half a year ago. Fortunately, I had already written a blog post [1] about backups, so setting myself back up and adding a cron task took under 30 min with a fresh disk. HN discussionYup - I had a similar experience [1]. Chapter 9 is certainly the weakest part of the book but it picks up very quickly thereafter. [1] https://www.thatgeoguy.ca/blog/2021/03/07/review-the-little-...

HN discussionI hate to be that guy who plugs his own crap everywhere, but I actually wrote my own blog post recently about backing up my stuff on Linux. My setup is fairly rudimentary, and I had the help of a friend on IRC, but here's the link if anyone is interested in setting up something simple for a Linux workstation at home or a VPS you can ssh into (really, as long as you can SSH into it with rsync, my method will work). I…

HN discussionMeta: with JavaScript disabled (or if it fails to load), your <code> elements are very badly styled because of the highlighter-rouge class on them, which per monokai.css makes them `display: block` (and other related styles designed only for blocks of code, not inline code). When the JavaScript runs, the rouge highlighting is undone by https://thatgeoguy.ca/js/prettifyCode.js , which clobbers the class attribute, se…

HN discussionTo be honest, I had the same question last year, and wrote a short guide on how I (eventually) came to do backups [1]. Funny enough, I didn't even notice the topic article until today, which is kind of funny that I see it almost exactly a year later (only off by two days, really). Of course, this is very Linux centric, but it fits my needs and likewise allows me to rsync back anything on the backup at any time, even…

HN discussionSmall unrelated bug report: in your "Book review: Bernoulli's Fallacy" article, there is a link to: https://www.thatgeoguy.ca/blog/%7B%7B%20site.baseurl%20%7D%7... I don't have much time to read through all this now but I'll check later, looks like great write-ups!

HN discussionI actually wrote an article 8 months ago on how I do it ( https://thatgeoguy.ca/blog/2013/12/26/encrypted-backups-in-d... ). Granted, this is for personal use, and really relies on cron / rsync to work well. Let me know if you have any questions about how I got it to work (for the most part, the biggest issue I see you encountering is encrypting drives on OSX).

HN discussionAn alternative, R7RS implementation that I also maintain for (CHICKEN) Scheme: < https://wiki.call-cc.org/eggref/5/transducers > I believe I've submitted my own blog post on transducers in the past. See < https://www.thatgeoguy.ca/blog/2023/01/04/reflections-on-tra... > To bjoli: Have you seen my library? Any intentions to update the SRFI and incorporate more types?
