Too few sampled comments (2) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

HN readers link The Geomblog's posts on the crowdsourced review of the 2010 Deolalikar P≠NP proof attempt, a topic of computational complexity discussion.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. Precisely! I found the crowdsourcing approach that got started at http://geomblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/on-deolalikar-proof-cro... amazing. Terence Tao had done a similar thing, not for paper review but to prove some theorems. Compared to this, the rigid approach adopted in Math Overflow to close any discussion on the issue seems so 19th century. See the discussion here: http://meta.mathoverflow.net/discussion/590/

  3. I am a graduate student at a big state university, studying complexity theory. I TA for the (required) introduction to discrete mathematics sometimes, and when we study FSM's I get to have a lot of fun motivating them for the students. Automata theory may seem arcane, but if you want to truly understand concurrent programming, protocol design, robust systems, etc, you need good cognitive models. Heck, Erlang (one of…
