What Hacker News says?

  1. I believe the way you put it describes this part in the DMCA takedown notice the best way possible. Bringing up European laws on intellectual property and mixing it with US "copyright" is comical to me, especially after reading this [0] article on French law recently: > France doesn’t have copyright. Sorry for US readers, your “copyright” is nonsense that doesn’t apply here, though the word “copyright” can be seen m…

  3. Google Cloud if you're looking for something similar. It's just so much better and cheaper. I think a lot of the resistance here towards that kind of move is just because people are inherently lazy and they aren't paying the bill themselves. (I'm guessing a relatively large part is also selfish attachment to the market leader because of employment reasons. I hate wasting money, both for myself and for my employer, s…

  11. Predicted that weeks ago. AirBnb is super bloated, they have a similar amount of employees as the other major travel groups but only serve a fraction of the products and customers https://thehftguy.com/2020/03/23/will-airbnb-go-bankrupt-and... 13. Physical infrastructure is always overprovisioned because it has to be planned long in advance and the smallest unit is huge (8 cores? 128 GB of RAM? for a small server). If anything that's an argument against physical infra, not in favor of. Although it's fine if one wants a lot of the same big servers (an Hadoop cluster, or video computing cluster, or a CDN), which are the few use cases where physical can make sen…

  21. > By giving a number first, you're either too high and you won't have an opportunity to sell yourself, you're too low and you've literally already negotiated against yourself, or you're lucky and right at their expectation, which you could have gotten to by simply not giving the first number. And that's why salary is a binary search! https://thehftguy.com/2017/01/23/career-advice-and-salary-ne...

  27. Being generous, there is only the spectrum around 100 MHz to 10 GHz that's usable. In layman terms, 1 MHz allow for about 1 Mbps. That's all the bandwidth you can get. Wired connection bandwidth is trivial, any optic fiber will give a dependable gigabit link. A tower is already equipped with 3 to 12 radio stations. While we are talking about telecommunications, I wrote that last week: https://thehftguy.com/2017/07/1…
