What Hacker News says?

  1. SFO is said to be a somewhat abnormal/difficult approach [0]. This could cause stress and fractured attention in the pilot. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there was some other complicating factor. Planes don't usually crash (or nearly crash) without several safety factors being breached. 0: https://jethead.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/how-do-you-land-at-...

  5. It also works with "cars" circa 1910, or even "books"... See also this opinion of an actual commercial pilot about the risk of a drone hitting a passenger aircraft: https://jethead.wordpress.com/2015/08/08/airliners-vs-drones...

  6. I think it's good that the FAA is documenting close calls with drones, however the press is a little overblown. This long time pilot views drones less of threat then geese or other large birds. That may change if drones get bigger and heavier, but all things point to drones getting smaller. A pilot's view on drones: https://jethead.wordpress.com/2015/08/08/airliners-vs-drones...

  7. There are some strange corner cases out there: > Already requested and had the data linked chart for our landing weight sent up to the aircraft: we require 5,671 feet on a wet runway, good braking, zero tailwind. Each knot of tailwind adds 150 to the distance required, so even one knot of tailwind exceeds the runway length. * https://jethead.wordpress.com/2014/12/13/flying-a-jet-in-the...
