HN discussionThe motivation behind a task manager (and things like GTD) is that your brain has much more important things to worry about than what you have to do. If you get to the point where you really trust the system you use, you can get to the point where you're not stressed about remembering upcoming things. Instead, you just consult your system and see what's up. I started using Things ( https://culturedcode.com/things/ )…

HN discussionThings ( https://culturedcode.com/things/ ) does pretty much that. It has a little Quick Entry daemon which lets you press control-option-space in Mail.app to make a new task linked to the selected mail. By default, the subject ends up as the task's title, though you can change it before hitting Return. In general, I highlight recommend Things. It does all the typical GTD stuff, in a mostly Maclike way, and has a gr…

HN discussionIn the beginning we used Show Source and Console. As web pages grew in size it became difficult to navigate the source code, and you still had no direct way to view how CSS was being applied. The first web inspector that I used was Xyle Scope in 2004. It was an early tool based on Apple's new Safari engine. It was a few years before Firebug was released, and even then it took a while for Firebug to beat Xyle Scope i…

HN discussionFirst off, congrats on getting your idea out into a tangible product. Many people come up with ideas, even fewer take time, or have the skills, to try to actually build them, but you put in time and effort that made it to the end goal of putting it on the App Store. Not everyone makes it that far so congratulations on doing so. I took a look because, as a current student, I often have to write research papers and ta…

HN discussion> I'm not sure if Things lets you export tasks, but if they do I'm more than happy to run a one-time custom import for you (or any other Things user). There's also the simpler way, which is copying a bunch of tasks to your clipboard and hitting ⌘+Shift+V in Godspeed to paste tasks from clipboard. It'll respect indentation and bullet characters. The local Things database is just a sqlite database. https://culturedcod…

HN discussionI designed the sync engine for Things Cloud [0] over a decade ago. It seems to have worked out pretty well for them. (The linked page has some details about what it can do.) When sync Just Works™, it's a magical thing. One of the reason's my design has been reliable from its very first release, even across multiple refactors/rewrites (I believe it's currently on its third, this time to Swift) is that it uses a Git-l…

HN discussionI use three tools: 1) Things app on my iPhone/iPad/Mac ( https://culturedcode.com/things/ ) - it's a quick place to jot down quick thoughts or notes when I'm in the middle of doing other things. (I use it for my "to-do" lists - and it syncs beautifully across my other Apple devices.) 2) MindNode ( https://mindnode.com/ ) - if I have a group of thoughts, or if I have a few minutes, I'll often create a quick mind map…

HN discussionThe things app https://culturedcode.com/things/ , even though it's just an elegant TODO app something drove me to buy the iPhone and Mac versions. Some time ago I spent a good amount of time looking for a development stack that allowed me to just build stuff. I ended up trying and deciding on Laravel Jetstream with InertiaJS https://jetstream.laravel.com/2.x/stacks/inertia.html . Laravel was easy enough already to j…

HN discussionLooks great, I love the UI and the whole native approach. I wish there was an option to use iCloud for storage or even full offline mode. I would also prefer the one-time payment, even if it is high (like https://culturedcode.com/things/ does). Also please copy "Daily Notes" from Roam :-)
