Why HN links it

HN links ThingsBoard's site as the home and documentation page for an Apache 2.0 open-source IoT platform, including its samples and MQTT broker testing methodology.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

ThingsBoard is an all-in-one IoT platform that gives you everything you need to build, deploy, and scale IoT solutions.

What Hacker News says?

  1. Hi everyone! Me and my friends have just released open-source (Apache 2.0) IoT platform that is free for commercial use. Sample projects: http://thingsboard.io/docs/samples Server side is based on Akka, gRPC, Zookeeper and Cassandra Front-end is based on Angular Material Don't hesitate to star the project on github to help us spread the word.

  3. I was working on this at my previous employer. We started with Elasticsearch and were planning to move to Timescale ( https://www.timescale.com ). Another project used Cassandra which had some issues but they were happy with overall. You might also want to look into Thingsboard ( https://thingsboard.io ) which supports both Timescale/Postgres and Cassandra.

If you’re as confused as I was when I clicked the link expecting to see a board, this is a software project rather than a hardware board. Their website was a more informative introduction for me than the GitHub repo: https://thingsboard.io/

  7. As for me, TBMQ proposes the same reasons to use it as ActiveMQ Artemis. ActiveMQ Artemis seems to be a great platform that states about its high performance, clustering support, and data persistence. We believe TBMQ offers the same advantages by relying on Kafka to provide high-throughput and low-latency delivery. Check out our performance results: https://thingsboard.io/docs/mqtt-broker/reference/100m-conne... We…

  11. You are correct. TBMQ is based on Spring Boot. We use Netty ( https://netty.io/ ) as the source of the MQTT communication, and we build the MQTT features the MQTT broker should support ourselves on top of that. Kafka is used to implement scalable, fault-tolerant solution with reliable message persistence. Additionally, it helped to gain high-throughput processing and low-latency message delivery. We store published…

  15. I would recommend reviewing the following article: https://bloomberg.github.io/blazingmq/docs/introduction/comp... Key points can be found there and everyone will choose their own priorities. For us these are: * https://bloomberg.github.io/blazingmq/docs/introduction/comp... * https://bloomberg.github.io/blazingmq/docs/introduction/comp... (Kafka is Java as well as TBMQ, Kafka already does not depend on Zookeeper) *…
