What Hacker News says?

  1. I've seen Prescheme (a subset of Scheme used to bootstrap a full-fledged dialect of Scheme) that seems to allow only stack-based allocation and therefore forbids certain types of closures that cannot be reduced via hoisting at compile time.[0] Lisp with ref counting (assuming acyclic references) instead of GC could also be interesting to try to hack together. I have a feeling closures would be a particularly quick w…

  3. As a Chicken Scheme user you might also appreciate the Hintz Chicken Scheme Shell (Hiss): http://thintz.com/chicken-scheme-shell Disclaimer: I haven't used it and the author says it is "still pretty new." However, it seems to be under active development still. At least there was a commit to the repository within the last year.

  7. I would highly recommend chicken scheme for most projects. It isn't as mature as other ecosystems, but it is getting there fast and is already quite mature and practical. I've used it to build multiple web apps/sites.[0][1] Learn more about the features it provides: http://wiki.call-cc.org/man/4/Getting%20started An index of the many libs it supports: http://wiki.call-cc.org/chicken-projects/egg-index-4.html Why ano…

  9. I have built numerous businesses and websites with chicken scheme. It rocks. The largest one is a basic CRM for a small niche. It runs super fast and development was a breeze. I run it compiled with a number of optimizations enabled.[0] My personal website is also built in chicken scheme and runs fast even though it is running in interpreted mode.[1] [0] https://a.keeptherecords.com/demo , source code: https://githu…

  11. What I did ( http://www.thintz.com/essays/less-stuff ) is to take stuff that I didn't think I needed and move it to the basement. If it stayed down there for awhile and I didn't miss it, then I knew there was a good chance that I didn't need it anymore.

  13. The OS has not been open sourced yet but will be soon. Personally there is https://github.com/ThomasHintz/ and https://bitbucket.org/thomashintz/ and even more on my personal website http://thintz.com Technically it could support C. One of the reasons it is based on Scheme though is that there is a lot of code already, code written in Scheme. :)
