What Hacker News says?

  1. https://thomashunter.name I'm a prolific blogger, wouldn't be surprised if I have the most posts on here. Mostly Node.js and JavaScript. I host things like side projects, all of my presentations, and my resume on it. When I publish a new book I update the pages to link to it for marketing.

  3. In other words, you're better off with affiliate links and content marketing than you are with algorithmic banner ads. Heck, even Google AdSense scans your site to match ads with the content (source: I've tried using AdSense). They just don't rely exclusively on the content for ad targetting. for actual comparisons: https://thomashunter.name/posts/2019-01-09-generic-banner-ad...

  5. I've got a dozen presentations [1] that all use reveal.js. I like it for presenting at live events because I just host them on my public website [2], and if my machine were to die, I could just borrow one from an audience member. - [1]: https://github.com/tlhunter/presentations - [2]: https://thomashunter.name/presentations/

  9. For a few months I had the ability for users to sign up for a paid account, but I never pushed it. After that, I just disabled the feature altogether. The most advertising I did do was a 125x125 ad on a website used by web developers (DavidWalsh.name) for one month. I didn't get a single user through that ad though. The biggest lesson learned is that an app like this really needs someone who is good at marketing. I'…

  13. Good question! Deno has four policies that I know of: --allow-write --allow-net --allow-env --allow-run Today these policies are all-or-nothing and they are global to the entire Deno process. Consider and application which _only_ needs to make a GET request to a single GitHub API endpoint. This application will then use the `--allow-net` flag and will be able to communicate with arbitrary sites like evil.ru. However…
