What Hacker News says?

  1. I also didn't like the existing notebook implementations. I wanted it to run locally, be based on markdown, specialized for just SQL and be easy to store in git. So I wrote one myself: https://www.timestored.com/sqlnotebook/ It ships as part of qstudio and can connect to 30+ databases. If you have any feedback please leave it on github, I only released it a few months ago.

  5. >kind of wished that Azure Data Studio (now discontinued) had directly supported loading CSV/TXT etc into an in-memory or temp db for queries and portability QStudio supports right click query csv, txt, parquet via duckdb. It also supports more exotic data sources like rest apis by placing the data into a temp table. I called it babeldb https://www.timestored.com/qstudio/csv-file-viewer

  11. I took the query only what you need approach with PulseUI: https://www.timestored.com/pulse/ It emphasises not sending all data to the client. For real-time and very large data sets this is the only option.

I produce a free sql editor that allows users to plugin openai to perform text to sql: https://www.timestored.com/qstudio/help/ai-text2sql so far uptake is slow and the only good benefit is to spit out a few queries as a starting point. 17. I recently took a big gamble on DuckDB. I've added it to the core of qStudio a free SQL editor. Now within the editor you can save table results from any database to the local duckdb instance or you can even perform joins amongst any server and I do mean almost any server. Out of the box DuckDB supports mysql/postgresql but I've added support for 20+ other database though it probably doesn't support all their types.…
