Too few sampled comments (3) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

Linked for a legal-tech product and for posts on desktop app development in Rust and a redline post. Commenters point to the site as a tool and dispute the desktop post's approach and the redline post's style.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. No, it’s fine. It’s the longer term DX that takes a hit. Anything other systems can do, immediate mode can do, because like those systems you can always cache across frames. The same can’t really be said for retained mode. We wrote some about it here: https://tritium.legal/blog/desktop

  3. It's not necessarily hostility. We considered different updating approaches with our legal IDE where security, stability, etc. are paramount, and having a buggy application out in the wild is user-hostile. Sure, in a dream world we'd say "don't ship until it's perfect", but that's just not realistic. We considered the daemon thing, but ended up with a hard-update check on every boot. It's thus a user choice: if you…

  5. Managed to scale my legal tech B2B product Tritium ( https://tritium.legal ) through an existing professional network. It's technically B2B but B2C in the sense that it's marketed directly to the end-user, not the enterprise. Probably not yet at a hundred users, but it's heading there. I'm using these initial users to flesh out the frequently asked questions and produce the introduction artifacts to hopefully transi…

  7. Microsoft raising prices on Office?! Must be for all those new useful features brought to your desktop over the last decade. Definitely not monopolistic rent-seeking. No siree. 9. Just wrote about my battles with software updates[1]. Without getting into what should or shouldn’t happen, I’ll express my sympathy for the Jeep team and the owners. Software updates are hard. [Edit: a commenter notes that Jeep’s parent has recently mandated LLM usage in development. Let’s hope these two are unrelated and that we aren’t going to start seeing more catastrophic failures like this over the next few mo…

  13. Somebody tell the Danish legal team that Tritium ( https://tritium.legal ) runs on Linux :). I said it on the prior thread, and I think it's worth reiterating: Politics aside, Microsoft has such a strangle hold on so many industries it's insane. That reach is just extending with copilot + OpenAI and Azure. The next few years could be bleak if it plays the way MSFT is trying to push it. Good for Denmark.

  19. I'm working on an IDE for lawyers: https://tritium.legal It's inspired by VS Code and hopefully positioned to eventually be a Cursor-like experience for transactional lawyers. The LLM integration isn't baked in yet to keep the in-house onboarding frictionless. It's a desktop application written in Rust. It uses egui (an immediate mode UI library) for speed. I'd greatly appreciate any comments.

  21. The temptation since the TDD movement has been that if you can't test it, it isn't "written". I think "legibility" is a great word to describe that desire. I have hundreds of unit tests for Tritium, but it wasn't until I started writing a blog using it[1] that I started finding qualitative bugs that weren't picked up (and would be really hard to pick up) with unit tests. They were illegible. I think this is why indy…

  26. https://tritium.legal Tritium is an IDE for corporate lawyers. Draft Word docs, review PDFs, redline all in a single application. It's written in Rust using a modified version of egui. Immediate mode has some interesting tradeoffs that I'd love to discuss on here. Also the web/desktop dichotomy presents a lot of interesting opportunities and challenges where data governance is concerned. I'd love your thoughts or to…
