What Hacker News says?

  1. OpenID connect is a rather simple protocol. I was able to understand most of it in about a day by reading the specs ( https://openid.net/specs/openid-connect-core-1_0.html ). For anybody that's interested and doesn't want to read these specs, I've written a comprehensive tutorial on how to implement a client for OpenID using simple HTTP requests ( https://spapas.github.io/2023/11/29/openid-connect-tutorial/ ). It's…

  3. I've written a react and a react-redux tutorial that, although are a little old, I believe that teach most important topics: https://spapas.github.io/2015/06/05/comprehensive-react-flux... and https://spapas.github.io/2016/03/02/react-redux-tutorial/

  7. For anybody that wants to start with pelican I had written a tutorial post about it at https://spapas.github.io/2013/10/07/pelican-static-windows/ . Also that blog is made with pelican and hosted with GitHub pages so you can see some of pelican's features. I'm using it for more than 7 years and am really happy with it (the fact that I am familiar with python and can debug some problems myself definitely helps)

  9. Hello, I am aware of webpack but I haven't jumped in the webpack wagon - the tool I use from the node-js world for asset management is browserify which is much simpler (I've written a couple of articles about it: https://spapas.github.io/2015/05/27/using-browserify-watchif... and https://spapas.github.io/2015/11/16/using-browserify-es6/ ). However, as I mention in the post, I don't using node-js tools if you don't n…

  11. I am using Notepad++ (I'm a windows user) for more than 5 years for python/django development. Never regreted it - never found something better. I stuck to Notepad++ even when I was using a Mac for some months (through Wine) - I couldn't find something better or faster. Everything else is way too slow (Atom, VS Code, pycharm) or way too inefficient (Vim / Emacs - inefficient for me they may be great for you) to repl…

  19. A very major reason on why Wordpress is so widely used, is how easy it is to install on just about anything above a toaster. Meanwhile, this is how you install Wagtail: http://spapas.github.io/2014/02/13/wagtail-tutorial/

  25. I haven't used puppeteer because I'd rather avoid the node.js ecosystem. I haven't used weasyprint because I can't install it on windows. The old way of doing it was using reportlab+xhtmltopdf (as described here: https://spapas.github.io/2015/11/27/pdf-in-django/ ) About wkhtmltopdf I am using it for some years in an internal (elixir) project and it works flawlessly, never had any complaint...
