  3. I work for Viam[0] and while all of our actual calculations are made using Spatial Vector Algebra[1], inputs can be made in a number of different ways and supporting DH is crucial for allowing pre-existing configurations to be easily brought over to our platform. SVA can also conveniently be easily used for both kinematics and dynamics. Personally I find SVA way more intuitive than DH or PoE. [0] https://www.viam.co…

  7. Their platform overview page does a decent job of talking about it without buzzwords. https://www.viam.com/product/platform-overview Basically, device drivers, data sync, control logic and ML inference all in one plus the glue to use it all together. I agree that they would benefit from a page dedicated more towards engineers and less towards marketers.

  13. This is really cool, and something I’ve thought about a lot from various perspectives. This space badly needs some source of cohesion. You don’t need my advice but I noticed you said: > Our hope is to make device integration simple… I think you should use more assertive language! You know it can be done so you don’t need to hope — it’s what you’re going to do! Do or do not, there is no try! I love this idea in any c…

  17. Honestly, just pick up some components (motors, webcams, sensors) from Amazon plus a Raspberry Pi. Google some tutorials on how to interface with those components programmatically. Beyond that, ROS is the heavily adopted project that can help coordinate all in a robot system: https://www.ros.org/ . It's a big project with a big learning curve. Some newer platforms like Viam aim to simplify all of this: https://www.v…
