Why HN links it

A personal blog by a developer. Linked posts cover a fast command-not-found handler for Arch Linux, its design, and reverse engineering ACPI on an old Toshiba laptop.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. This is generally called a command-not-found handler and are a feature of all the major shells (though the exact details differ, the general idea is to define a function with a specific reserved name), and most majors distros have ones that can be installed, even if they aren't by default. I wrote my own (much faster) such handler for Arch Linux. I even wrote a blog post about the design: https://vorpal.se/posts/202…

  5. I did some ACPI reverse engineering on an old Toshiba laptop some years ago, with the goal of improving the Linux ACPI drivers. Learnt a lot from it, and wrote a blog post that you might find interesting: https://vorpal.se/posts/2022/aug/21/reverse-engineering-acpi... (100% human written, and I hate that I have to specify that these days).
