Why HN links it

HN readers link Wherobots posts for technical detail on geospatial support in Apache Iceberg and the Havasu project for spatial data lakehouses. The comments point to these posts as references rather than praising them.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. > Spark doesn't even have geospatial data types and the open source packages that add support leave a lot to be desired. Could you say more about this? I'm curious if you've compared Apache Sedona [0] and what specifically you found lacking? I currently work at Wherobots [1], founded by the creators of Apache Sedona and would love to hear any feedback. [0] https://sedona.apache.org/latest/ [1] https://wherobots.com/

  7. Beside Zarr, there are also efforts to support different types of raster (sort of multidimensional) data such as geotiff and NetCDF. The Iceberg Geo spec was heavily influenced by the Havasu project proposed by Wherobots, which also supports that type of raster data. However, the Iceberg geo spec still only supports only geometry for now. https://wherobots.com/building-a-spatial-data-lakehouse/
