  1. > Whatever Pagespeed or Lighthouse might say, we haven't found minification to be a big benefit when we turn it on. Minify CSS Potential savings of 20 KiB Minify JavaScript Potential savings of 82 KiB The benefit is less data going over the wire. I get it--100 KiB doesn't sound like much these days, especially given the page weight of almost 800 KiB. But it's still an extra 100 KiB that doesn't need to be transferre…

  3. I've come to the conclusion that writing CSS is an anti pattern I don't think this is true. The biggest problem is people who write CSS do it as if they want CSS to be something else and are trying to force it to be that. Writing CSS using ITCSS (Inverted Triangle CSS) [1] solves so many of the issues devs complain about it. It's simple: create layers in specificity order. Don't fight the cascade; make it work for y…

  5. I recommend learning about BEM and Inverted Triangle CSS (itcss) approaches. ITCSS dramatically improved how I write css as it naturally works with the cascade and removes most duplicate efforts. https://www.xfive.co/blog/itcss-scalable-maintainable-css-ar... https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-solv... Also, css-tricks.com is a great resource and a hub of the css community. SCSS / Sass is the mos…

  7. To avoid CSS inheritance & specificity, the "Cascading" part of CSS is the actual root of all evil. The Cascade is CSS’a superpower. If only someone would come up with a way to write CSS to make the cascade work for you, not against you. Oh wait; that would be Inverted Triangle CSS. 9. I got my start remote working with X-Team ( https://x-team.com ) and their sister company X-Five (then called XHTMLized) ( https://www.xfive.co ) I don't know if they have any openings currently but definitely worth checking them out in my opinion.

  11. XHTMLized rebranded as Xfive last year: https://www.xfive.co/blog/xhtmlized-has-rebranded-to-xfive/ I would definitely recommend their services as well. I previously worked as a contractor (mostly on internal backend systems) for XHTMLized and their sister company X-Team, and have used XHTMLized (before the rebrand) for a client project of my own. Edit: just read the last part of the OP. You will absolutely get what…

  13. One more thing I find baffling is the preference to ignore the cascade… and seeing it as a benefit. The cascade is where the value of CSS comes from! It’s an incredibly powerful concept. I use and love the Inverted Triangle CSS (ITCSS) approach and write a fraction of the CSS code I used to. Having a few utility classes, using variables for project-specific colors, breakpoints, spacing, using fluid typography, grid,…
