What Hacker News says?

  1. Web3 feels like the next grift after we caught on to ICO's. From the article: > The problem here is the profit motive: people who are working on web3 generally want to get paid for it, but it's fundamentally harder to extract rent from truly decentralized systems than it is from centralized ones. Because of that, people end up building systems that are centralized at their core, with some aesthetics of decentralizat…

  9. I'm not convinced proof-of-stake works at all: https://yanmaani.github.io/proof-of-stake-is-a-scam-and-the-... It's almost certainly better for the environment / our continued existence than proof-of-work, if we must suffer cryptocurrency, but I don't trust people who were willing to continue to engage with proof-of-work for years to create an ethical (or even functional) alternative.

  11. > Ethereum will use dramatically less carbon to be more secure Why is that? PoS security model is fundamentally different from PoW - for instance - you cannot determine which of the two chains is "correct" anymore, you have to consult "a friend" [0]. That's not the case in Bitcoin, where the correct chain is simply the longest. All PoS algos are very complex and have a ton of seemingly bandaid solutions for various…

"Proof of stake is a scam and the people promoting it are scammers" [0] > humans figuring out how to do something they want to do Humans don't want tulips that much (or monkey GIFs, or Amway toothpaste, or whatever the scheme du jour is).
