Why HN links it

HN readers link Zama's blog for its fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) work, including posts on the TFHE scheme and encrypted image filtering. Commenters cite it as a source in FHE and privacy discussions.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 10 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

Zama uses Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) so institutions can issue, trade and manage confidential assets on public blockchains, fully verifiable.

What Hacker News says?

  1. Or using homomorphic encryption. I remember some managing to run inference on encrypted images. 3. It's a distraction to try and imagine homomorphic encryption for generic computing or internet needs. At least not for many more generations of moore's law and then even still. However, where FHE will shine already is in specific high-value, high consequence and high confidentiality applies, but relatively low complexity computational calculations. Smart contracts, banking, potentially medical have lots of these use…

  5. They use the patent loophole. From https://www.zama.ai/post/open-source > If a company open sources their code under BSD3-clear, they can sell additional licenses to use the patents included in the open source code. In this case, it still isn’t the software that is sold, but rather the usage rights of the patented intellectual property it contains. Every day I like the Apache licence more.

  13. It's really great to see more big companies getting into this game, ease of adoption is really the key here. When it comes to FHE, there are 3 underlying paradigms you can target with compilers: 1. boolean circuits, where you represent your program as encrypted boolean gates. The advantage is that it's as generic as it gets, the drawback is that it's slow. TFHE is great for that, and it's what is shown here. 2. arit…

  15. If you want to see a practical use case of Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) with Machine Learning. > https://www.zama.ai/post/titanic-competition-with-privacy-pr... Its main ambition is to show that FHE can be used for protecting data when using a Machine Learning model to predict outcomes without degrading its performance. 19. In a case where you are offloading the computation to another device because of compute limitations it would indeed probably make more sense, at least at the moment, to offload the computation to a trusted device. But there is always the case where the server side with the model does not want to disclose the model itself while the client does not want to disclose its data either (like in many healthcare applications…
