What Hacker News says?
There is a faulty assumption that higher cholesterol leads to higher risk of heart disease, but the fact the opposite is true. http://www.zoeharcombe.com/2016/11/familial-hypercholesterol... A few of the other facts/assumptions you make are outdated. Statins do very little to improve mortality. Inflammation can be reduced by cutting out carbs and sugar. Eating more saturated fats and omega 3 also reduces your risk o…

HN discussionObviously that publication didn't go over well with the keto crowd, and they found a lot to pick apart (See 1 and 2). The most relevant critiques: Methodology-wise, the prospective study seemed pretty poor * Those people filled out questionnaires on their eating patterns on two occasions, six years apart. Their health was followed up for 25 years, allowing for factors that might alter the results, such as smoking, i…

HN discussionThe 3500 calories / lb theory has no scientific basis. [1] It is much more complex than that. http://www.zoeharcombe.com/2014/06/the-calorie-theory-prove-...

HN discussionThe paleo movement has long since moved away from "eat what paleoliths ate" to focus on "nothing in biology makes sense except in light of evolution".[1] Multiple thought leaders (e.g. Chriss Kresser[2] and Robb Wolf) have acknowledged genetic changes such as lactase persistence and changes in iron metabolism that have arisen in the last 10,000 years. Succesful inclusion of dietary grains however, requires fundament…

HN discussionI really want to. Just so much junk epidemiology that has come out of nutritional epidemiology. A small sample.. https://www.zoeharcombe.com/2014/11/academic-studies-questio...

on “Let's Stop the 5G Hysteria: Understanding Hoaxes and Disinformation Campaigns”You need to remember that a lot of the people like Alice H. Lichtenstein are heavily invested in the current thoughts on nutrition. I can not stress enough that "The Big Fat Surprise" is very informative about the current state of our nutrition policies here in the United States (and this leaks out of our country into many others that follow it by default). Just watch that "The Real Food Politics" video (see above).…

on “Dietary carbohydrate intake and mortality: a prospective cohort study”Going to the extreme and eating only meat is a bit bonkers. The main problem with our diet and what causes the most disease and death are carbs and sugar. Take a look at this regarding nutrients and plants http://www.zoeharcombe.com/2014/04/the-perfect-five-a-day/ I have been researching all sides of this for 6 months now for a doc http://foodlies.org so I'm very familiar with a ll the arguments and studies on both…

on “I Ate Nothing but Meat for 2 Weeks”Coincidentally, I recently came across this contrarian view of statins which says that they aren't really all that benign as we think: http://www.zoeharcombe.com/2013/10/how-statin-drugs-really-l... I haven't read the book, nor can I vouch for the arguments. But take it FWIW.
