What Hacker News says?
Compared to a similar 6yo [1] and 3yo[2] (by zutty maker) comparisons, VTE terminals still (at least pre-46) bad in latency front. (They're as high as VS Code based beuke article.) Xterm still rules it. (Pointed in [2], this is due to direct rendering via Xlib which comes with the downside of having poor throughput.) Alacritty significantly improved, Konsole got worse. About Alacritty, it's pointed in [2], there wer…

HN discussionkitty has lower latency than Alacritty. Alacritty is optimized for throughput and is the best for that, but I don't understand who would prefer throughput over latency in a terminal setting. I switched from kitty to wezterm. I don't have an official benchmark like the below [1], but low latency is an explicit goal of the project and it seems on par with kitty. [1] https://tomscii.sig7.se/2021/01/Typing-latency-of-Zu…

HN discussionCool article! Where did you learn PSU design? Are you "classically" trained or self taught? edit: The article on the design of the PSU is also great: https://tomscii.sig7.se/2024/04/300W-Linear-DualTracking-Lab...

HN discussionThere are various ways to take advantage of the GPU -- the so-called GPU-accelerated terminals contain bespoke OpenGL programs ("shaders") to do rendering on the GPU. Here's an interesting way of doing it: https://tomscii.sig7.se/2020/11/How-Zutty-works

HN discussionMost "modern" terminals are surprisingly buggy (for lack of a better word), that is, they do not conform to the VT100-series specs (and less documented, but well known quirks). Here's a look at some of them: https://tomscii.sig7.se/2020/12/A-totally-biased-comparison-...

HN discussionst is such an outlier in those measurements that it makes you wonder whether something is potentially wrong with the test setup. There's another set of latency measurements here: https://tomscii.sig7.se/2021/01/Typing-latency-of-Zutty In those, st is roughly similar in performance to urvxt and Alacritty.

HN discussionThis is also great: https://tomscii.sig7.se/2021/01/Typing-latency-of-Zutty The typing latency on zutty is the biggest feature for me. Everything feels snappy.
