What Hacker News says?
Another alternative is TreeSheets ( http://strlen.com/treesheets/ ) which is desktop only but very fast and nice implementation of structured note taking tool. It's very well suited as replacement for mind maps, categorization of items and mapping hierarchical structures. I prefer it to any online solution because of speed and data ownership.

HN discussionThe following are not exactly what you have asked for. https://gephi.org/ This implements lots of graph visualization algorithms. https://strlen.com/treesheets/ Excel for tree data.

HN discussionDescended from FOVquake and Pan(oramic)Quake. https://strlen.com/gfxengine/panquake/ Changing the lens projection is a little different than changing the value of pi, but it plays in the same "visually wrong" space.

HN discussionsomehow my idea of the ultimate coding platform for touch interfaces would be more symbolic/graphical (eg a few of wouter's languages, see http://strlen.com/language-design-overview or scratch from MIT). I know there are many limitations in that approach, but nonetheless it would be neat to push (or nudge) the boundaries of the modern development style.

HN discussionhttp://strlen.com/treesheets/ It's a cross between an outliner / spreadsheet / mind-mapper and general note taker. I've spent significantly more hours using it than I've spent programming it, so that's a win in my book :)

HN discussionYes, I've bought every alleged outliner since and nothing compares. What's amazing is that Ecco had 100% reliable cross-device syncing in 1990s, both PC-PC and PC-PalmPilot. So it has enough metadata in the database. TreeSheets ( http://strlen.com/treesheets/ ) is an open-source cross-platform codebase (wxWidgets) with fast graphics, since it was designed by a game developer. That's one possible starting point for c…

HN discussionI like the approach Wouter van Oortmerssen uses in Lobster: class Animal: alive = true class Cat : Animal def hello(): print "meow" class Dog : Animal barked = 0 def hello(d::Dog): print "bark!" barked++ let d = Dog {} d.hello() let a:Animal = d a.hello() In other words, A.B(C) is just syntactic sugar for B(A, C), and class definitions are just syntactic on top of that. The relation between OO and regular functions…
