Why HN links it

HN commenters link this blog as background on Compiz, the Unity desktop and the libanimation wobbly-windows library, usually as a source for their own points. None of the comments judge the writing itself.

What Hacker News says?

  1. Compiz is not without problems either: http://smspillaz.wordpress.com/2011/12/25/apology-2/ And Mozilla has left Thunderbird more or less. Lack of developer power seems to be a pattern within open source desktop projects.

  7. I gather from the original statement by Mark Shuttleworth that the decision to cancel further development of Unity version 8 was a business decision based on not continuing development of the phone/mobile converged UI. I suspect (and hope) that Canonical just ignored the 'vocal minority' and carried on! Otherwise no-one would ever try anything new. I'm just wondering slightly how much of a Chandler the Unity 8 proje…

  9. An interesting side note here is that the coming Unity will be based upon compiz, instead of relying on mutter. Canonical apparently hired the lead developer of compiz: http://smspillaz.wordpress.com/2010/10/25/a-bright-new-futur...
