  3. https://amitness.com Started it to scratch my own itch. I'm a visual learner and learn the best when the maths is explained along with visualization and intuition. So, started this blog to share explanations of latest ML research using diagrams/code/analogies and linking them to associated math.

  5. Yeah, authors have tried mixing the strategy you described(self-supervised learning) for semi-supervised tasks. Basic idea is to learn generic image representations without manual labeling and then finetune that on your small dataset. These are relevant articles I have wrote on it: https://amitness.com/2020/02/illustrated-self-supervised-lea... https://amitness.com/2020/03/illustrated-simclr/

  7. Interesting, thank you for sharing that. It reminds me of this approach called "PIRL" by Facebook AI. They framed the problem to learn invariant representations. You might find it interesting. https://amitness.com/2020/03/illustrated-pirl/

  9. 1. Key ideas: I basically skim through blog posts and videos from conferences to be aware of key ideas in Machine Learning 2. Fundamentals: Parallelly, I take MOOC course every once in a while to learn fundamental concepts from first principles 3. Implementation: I either use the ideas I learned from (1) and (2) in a work project or write a blog post to make it concrete on my personal blog: https://amitness.com/

  15. I've read the ALBERT paper extensively[0] and agree with what you mean. We can't boil down years of research efforts with just 4 bullet points. The intention in the above blog post isn't to suggest that we discard detailed research papers. It's just thinking about additional mediums we can use to make papers more accessible(a good example is distill.pub and paperswithcode). As mentioned in other threads below, PDF c…

Thank you @amitness for this wonderful website with graphical explanations :) The PIRL technique in question here seems useless to me, because its loss deliberately trains it to behave differently from what a human would do. But that overview page https://amitness.com/2020/02/illustrated-self-supervised-lea... is gold.
