If there was no requirement for vote secrecy, it would be easy. The conflicting requirements between verifiability of results and secrecy of the vote is what makes it hard. I wrote more about this here: https://www.attejuvonen.fi/thesis/

HN discussion> If you put some decent effort [...] it works Well, I put in more than some decent effort, and I didn't get it "to work". I detailed my efforts here: https://www.attejuvonen.fi/dont-send-email-from-your-own-ser... Please stop spreading falsehoods. If you were able to somehow get your own email server to deliver email to Gmail and Outlook, great, good for you - but stop pretending that anybody can do it.

HN discussionThat's a great page especially the graphic: https://www.attejuvonen.fi/static/5553d78133d27e12a9d1d3e6f1... If we want more democracy I think we must get some help from technology. Liquid Democracy ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_democracy ) sounds like an approach that would be hard to do without computers.

HN discussionRemoving trust completely is a pretty high bar... but there are different voting schemes out there and some of them do a pretty good job of removing a lot of the trust. Cryptography is typically involved, but blockchain is not needed. I wrote more about this here: https://www.attejuvonen.fi/thesis/

HN discussionNo, when you take a loan out of a bank, the bank doesn't "create deposits" that it loans to you. The bank loans you existing deposits. The method by which banks end up creating money is less dramatic than you think. I wrote a long-form explainer here: https://www.attejuvonen.fi/money-out-of-thin-air/

HN discussion> I often wonder how money is stored. It can't be just a number on a computer in a bank, right? Otherwise some Russian bank could just increase that number to whatever they like. And say "Look, we own 100 Trillion USD. A bank could easily create fake money into its own accounts, but it would have trouble transferring that money over to other banks. I wrote extensively about this topic here: https://www.attejuvonen.f…

HN discussionNo, it's incorrect to say that running an email server requires just "a bit more work". Google basically no longer allows low volume servers to send mail. I wrote more about this here: https://www.attejuvonen.fi/dont-send-email-from-your-own-ser...

HN discussion> None of my emails are considered as spam, and I haven't touched the mail configuration since. Sounds like you never actually tried to measure the delivery rates of your outgoing email. No email server is actually able to get 100% of its outgoing mail past spam filters. I've ran my own email server for a few years and I can confirm that the article is making false claims. It's incredibly difficult to deliver email…

HN discussion> If you set everything up right, and choose the host for your mail server carefully, and never change IP, after a fairly short time you won't have much problem with being marked as spam. No more so than with any other email host. This is untrue. If you are the only person using your email server, your volume will be so low that the big providers (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) won't track your reputation. So, ironically, be…
