What Hacker News says?

  1. > There are plenty of large projects written in Python. There are, but they are certainly a pain in the ass to work with. I once had to work on a semi-large Python codebase and got so frustrated that I wanted to port the code to some other language. The best part? I wrote the majority of that codebase myself, just months earlier. I ranted about it here: https://avi.im/blag/2023/refactoring-python/

  5. I recently upgraded [0] one of my project [1] to Django v4, from Django v1. The changes from Django 3 to 4 were fairly simple, just one line change in my case. The change log is extremely detailed, it was easy to upgrade. Also, I found a tool called django-upgrade [2] which makes some changes automatically, rest I made manually. 7. > I'd personally prefer deeper thinking which this blog's previous posts-- high in hype and low in technical rigor-- have not yet provided. Really? Something like this[1] (literally the previous post made by the author!) is "high in hype and low in technical rigor"? Or do you just have an axe to grind? 9. I was working on a project to insert a billion rows in SQLite under a minute, batching the inserts made it crazy fast compared to individual transactions. link: https://avi.im/blag/2021/fast-sqlite-inserts/

  11. Here's sqlite doing 100 million inserts in 33 seconds which should fit into nearly every workload, though it is batched. https://avi.im/blag/2021/fast-sqlite-inserts/ So write contention from multiple connections is what you're talking about, versus a single process using sqlite?

The environment and focus made me get better at programming and explore many areas in Computer Science, which I wouldn't have otherwise. I spent time hacking on SQLite, BTrees, Go Compilers, Code search engines etc. I met and paired with really amaz…
