  1. If you haven't read Bari Weiss's resignation letter from the NYT, I would recommend it: https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter > But I can no longer do the work that you brought me here to do—the work that Adolph Ochs described in that famous 1896 statement: “to make of the columns of The New York Times a forum for the consideration of all questions of public importance, and to that end to invite intelligent d…

  3. PG's essay that article is talking about: http://paulgraham.com/conformism.html (disclosure: I thought it was good). The current affairs article was extremely tedious, whatever good point they might have made was hurt by its self-assured hostile tone and personal attacks (basically an example of the kind of thing PG's essay was talking about). There are a few essays that get into the weeds and give more explicit exa…

Also: https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter I think there are some great New York Times writers (Li Yuan’s articles I always like), but there’s a lot of seriously bad writing and writers. It’s not exclusive to NYT either, Vox makes some great stuff - but…

I would recommend reading Bari Weiss' resignation letter from the New York Times. They have really stepped up their efforts to mislead people https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter

  6. First, the students were in high school, not college. This story is all about details. Second, what sexist language, exactly? What did he actually say? We certainly can't trust the mere accusation from a source like The Daily Beast. And again, this story is all about details. Third, it's easy to believe the NYT overreacted here given the evidence from other incidents. For example: James Bennet, the editorial page ed…

As one wrote: > Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. ... > But the truth is that intellectual curiosity—let alone risk-taking—is now a liability at The Times. Why edit something challengin…

Seeing how as Weiss was forced out of her position at the NYT [1] by 'woke progressives' she has made it her goal to expose the destructive effects this ideology has with the clear intent of putting a stop to it. Those who attempt to gain power and influence by denouncing others for thoughtcrime [2] shall be exposed and denounced themselves. The sooner this happens…

Bari Weiss's resignation letter from the NYT is probably the best place to start https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter Matt Taibbi has a good article on this too https://taibbi.substack.com/p/the-news-media-is-destroying-i... 10. NYT have been losing journalists too. The journos turned on their own - so much for freedom of speech. https://www.bariweiss.com/resignation-letter To be fair, NYT's motto was ( probably still is ) "All the News that's fit to Print" https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-16918787 Reading that resignation letter I wonder who gets to decide if the TRUTH is 'Fit to Print'.

  12. I think one of the root causes of this is the increasingly partisan behavior of the "mainstream" media. People are sick of having their opinions dictated to them, they're sick of media outlets that all push the same narratives 24/7 (Russiagate, anyone?), and they're desperately searching for any outlet that will objectively report "all the news that's fit to print" (as the NY Times likes to say). In the past year we…

  13. I'd argue that it's worse news than it appears. Bari Weiss left for the same reason Krugman did (you can make more money for less hassle with a Substack) even though her politics were the opposite and she didn't have as good a gig as Krugman did. Since the NYT had a web site everybody there knows they live and die based on the usage stats, and the usage stats says that people would rather read Krugman, Klein, Brooks…

  20. NYT is in the class of elite professional level bias and they certainly are not without their issues. This isn't to say they are more biased than other notable publications, but that they all have this quality and use professional language to sound authoritative on subject matters all while they still have the effect of changing opinion or manipulation of information. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_controvers…
