  3. > Okay, so on my screen that means 80% of the window is whitespace and it burns my eyes. background-color: black, I guess? Apart from calibrating the room lighting and monitor brightness, one can still have a dark background for the body but not for the wrapper that has max-size on it. E.g. http://camendesign.com/ here you would have white that burns your eyes if it was done without max-size, as is it's much better.…

Exactly. I have an obsession with "optimized" markup, that means avoiding unnecessary elements, ids and classes. Let's not forget that all this stuff sits in markup and gets downloaded on each request. Even if that does not add up to much, I still want to have my code "clean". There is one particular site that inspires me: http://camendesign.com/ — take a look, not a single id or class.

    > I really wish xhtml would have won in place of HTML/CSS. This makes me doubt that you understand what you are talking about. XHTML and HTML have exactly the same semantics. CSS has little to do with them (you can use CSS to style you XML documents if you wish so). With CSS3 and modern browsers you can pretty much avoid anything to HTML just for styling purposes. Heck, take a look at http://camendesign.com/ It's no…

  11. It looks like it only needs javascript for the flash fallback, and it wouldn't be too hard to put something in the video tag that would work as fallback for those without either html5 video or javascript. I think the only reason they didn't show this is because it's extra complexity for something that many people don't care about. For those that do care there's Kroc Camen's "Video for Everybody" http://camendesign.c…

  17. Interestingly you can deliver vorbis audio natively, via Java, and via Flash 10 (see https://launchpad.net/fogg ), so for audio you only need one format for 99% coverage. And despite that fact no-one talks about it, Vorbis is actually state of the art, competitive with both AAC and AAC-HE at their respective sweet spots but without the problem of AAC-HE degrading badly on decoders that only support AAC (e.g. Apple s…

  19. I don't get targeting the iPhone yet featuring Flash on the home page. Your audience can play HTML5 or gracefully degrade to QT. It's about iPhone, but I can't see it on iPhone or iPad. Make pitch1.swf a .mp4 file, and use the embed stack here: http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody Try the second one from the bottom, w/o the Ogg lines.
