Why HN links it
HN readers link copy.sh mainly for v86, a browser-based x86 emulator for booting old operating systems such as Windows 98 and Arch Linux, and for its Game of Life demos. The comments are links and mentions, not judgements of the writing.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 40 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

And this anuraOS[0] too! I haven't looked to closely at it (it showed up in my GH feed) but it looks like it uses v86[1] to emulate a *nix environment. [0]: https://github.com/MercuryWorkshop/anuraOS [1]: https://copy.sh/v86/

HN discussion This might match your recollection. x86 Win95 raytracing in javascript on my arm laptop is usable, but sort of slow: https://copy.sh/v86/?profile=windows95 Once it boots, run povray, then click run. It took over 2 minutes to render biscuit.pov, though it did manage to use SSE!

HN discussion> One reason for flat design is because it was the lowest common denominator and easy for devs to implement. The 3D buttons in Windows 98 (Start button, for example) must have be harder to develop due to the animation involved. Yet, that was perfectly fine on hardware much older than those on which flat UIs were developed. I think you are missing the main point, which is that designers maul designs every season exac…
