What Hacker News says?

  1. Looking at Comcast's webpage on this: http://corporate.comcast.com/comcast-voices/comcast-supports... They're arguing that Title II Classification is not the same as Net Neutrality, with the following statement: "Title II is a source of authority to impose enforceable net neutrality rules. Title II is not net neutrality. Getting rid of Title II does not mean that we are repealing net neutrality protections for Ameri…

  3. What made me laugh the most was when Comcast posted about a peering dispute with Level3[0] >Q8: Comcast says that Level 3 sends it 5 times the traffic that Comcast sends Level 3. Is that true? If it is true, why shouldn't Level 3 pay for the traffic it sends to Comcast? Comcast goes on to argue that Level3 pushes 5X more data onto the Comcast network than Comcast pushes onto the Level3 network. What I find ridiculou…

  23. Despite being a (bit of a) privacy enthusiast, I still use Google's DNS servers, for a few reasons: 1. I use chrome. If I didn't use Google DNS, they'd be able to track 90-99% of my internet usage just by watching what domains I visit in chrome. The remaining portion is e.g. irc, usenet, xmpp, ssh, etc, that doesn't go through chrome. I could use firefox or opera or w3m or telnet or whatever, but I like chrome. 2. I…

  25. I've only given the following a cursory glance, but it doesn't look like consumers had much to do with the speed increase. Instead, Comcast was concerned with being called out on price gouging in Baltimore [0]. Or they increased their minimum speed without increasing the price [1,2] - which I'd think implies Baltimore had a point about the price gouging. So while some people may have been able to buy better internet…

  27. The Xfinity 10G Network™ refers to their latest infrastructure upgrades. It is not a product. This is the confusion the article is about. The product "Gigabit x10" is the plan you are looking for, and is not on their website. It's a residential service but everything is handled by the business side of Comcast and Metro-E. You must get in touch with them directly. See these modmail requests on reddit[1] or dslreports…
