What Hacker News says?

  1. This my be true now, but when I was working and doing the marketing for my products, it reported accurately. I'm pretty sure it still does honestly. According to Customer.io, the change was to make images load by default, not requiring the end user to click Show Images. Thus making the open rates more accurate. https://customer.io/blog/gmail-loading-images.html

  19. Not using amazon's method, but combining S3 + Cloudfront w/ DNSMadeeasy's Aname record, you can this works (example): http://www.customer.io http://customer.io No redirect, 1 s3 bucket, and they both serve up the same assets from cloudfront. And HTTPS works too on cloudfront.

  21. That's not true, by either the letter of the law or the spirit of it. I own a business, and I post my email publicly because I want people to contact me . Some of those people will be selling me things--I want that! It's true that I end up with a lot of spam as a result, and that sucks, but it's better than never receiving unsolicited business email. Sending unsolicited email to consumers is, indeed, spam. B2B is di…

  25. I have a love-hate relationship with data. Data is great for helping drive product, messaging, engagement, etc. However, most data ends up as noise. It's noise because it isn't actionable. Ash Maurya wrote this great article on actionable metrics: http://www.ashmaurya.com/2010/07/3-rules-to-actionable-metri... In the end I think it depends on how you want to use the data. Here are a few things that I find useful: -…

  27. Thanks guys. Colin, co-founder of http://Customer.io here. The build vs. buy decision for people is always an interesting one. Taking a quick look at the app, if you're using Django, it's for sure worth a try. We take care of those as well as ans…

  29. Yup! We use Proxima-Nova. It's probably the next Helvetica Neue (i.e. hipster designers will be rolling their eyes at you soon). One of the things that's great about it is there are so many variations: Regular, Light, Regular Italic, Light Italic, Semibold, Bold, Extrabold, Black, Semibold Italic, Bold Italic. Most other sans-serif typefaces we evaluated didn't have enough variation that it could reliably service an…
